Dr. Awkward (Josh Watson) has been a Southern California recording artist since 2009. Doc was born and raised in San Diego, and because of this, much of his music is influenced by mainstream andunderground West Coast Hip Hop.
In early 2009, Dr. Awkward released his first solo project “NextGen,” in which Doc proclaims that he is the future of Nerdcore Hip Hop. The EP was hailed as aninstant classic, with such hits as “Geekquilibrium” and “Impostor.” With this release, Docsigned to the independent label Scrub Club Records.
He then performed at Nerdapalooza withseveral artists from Scrub Club. In Summer 2009, Doc finished a follow-up EP titled “Subterranean.” It was named that because of a departure from Awkward’s heavy synth sound and it adopted amore underground feel. This EP was completely discarded because Doc did not feel it evolvedin the skills demonstrated on the Next Gen EP.
Since his live act at Nerdapalooza, Doc hasperformed at after parties for large events such as Florida’s Nerd Invasion, San Diego’s ComicCon, and Texas’ Comicpalooza. He has shared bills with MC Frontalot, MC Lars, MC Chris,Zealous1, and MegaRan. Dr. Awkward is slated to play Indianapolis’ Gen Con in August 2010.
In April 2010, one year after Next Gen, Dr. Awkward finished and released his first full lengthalbum called “Unlimited.” The album was titled as such to convey Doc’s unlimited potentialand ability. This album features an amazing fusion of Nerdcore, Hip Hop, and R&B.
