Rust Covered Remixes

Artist: King Pheenix / MasDaMind
Released online December 2010
Running time: 27:40

Also Featuring: Eminem, Thunderball, and MadHatter.

A complete track-by-track remix of the first, smash hit King Pheenix album, but from a different side of the story!

All 6 of the original songs from the “Hero vs. Villain” album have been lying in the gutter, slowly regenerating and mutating… After a month, the tracks were retrieved, but these were now genetically altered – the beats have been switched out, speeds were changed, genres were crisscrossed… But there’s one thing scientists can confirm: They are indeed fresh specimens for your ears.

The appropriately-named remixer MasDaMind has mashed up each track for a completely new, surprisingly quirky effect. See what your good or evil faction has been missing!

Hero vs. Villain

Artist: King Pheenix
Released online July 2010
Running time: 27:13

This concept EP is King Pheenix’s first project released under the Scrub Club label, and the punches will not be pulled!

An evil, corporation-controlled faction called the “Hands of Blood” is on the verge of creating a New World Order. A superhero in every sense of the word named “The Truth” is on the prowl, looking to redeem his life by shutting them down. Unfortunately, the other sinister half of himself, “The Answer,” is also intent on taking over… but with ruthlessness and chaos as his inspiration.

On the good side of the tracks is a rebel gang that goes by “The Anarchitype,” who are the ultimate light in the shadow of the corporations. Will The Truth prevail and help lead The Anarchitype into a positive victory, or will The Answer best him and provide an unpredictable, greedy,  and bloody outcome? It’s hero vs. villain… which one are you?

ALBUM THANKS FROM KING PHEENIX

I always suck at these.

First and foremost, I would like to thank my family. Without them, I never would have tried to do anything with my music. You have always been supportive and I love you for it.

The awesome producers on this project – Pelicaine! You have had my back on so many beats and have been so awesome, thank you, bruh, and I cannot wait to meet you in person. Khryme, you are great homie, good looking out on the beat and I cant wait to drop in Stickam with ya again, man. Untested, you are a monster, your beats are redic, and “The Finale” was no exception. I can not wait to rock it with ya again, man.

MadHatter… Dude, you are like the older brother I never had. I can’t think of enough good things to say about my homie, but truthfully – Thank you for the chance to rock so many people, and wholeheartedly accepting me into our Scrub family. That and the mixing and everything, man. Can’t forget that, haha.

8bit, you crazy SOB, thank you for bringing me back into music, and for being my brother through and through. Also, thank you for putting up with me for all-nighters during Versus Mode, and all the badass music we have made together.

Karmageddon, you had my back when I needed you, man, and you are fam. All hail the kings!

My Scrub family, come on, you all are so fucking awesome! Doc for the nights on MW2 kicking ass during this process. Deaf for the ears on my stuff back in the day. Spooky, dude, you are one of my best friends and one of the most talented artists i know. Go to flickr.com/misterspooky, and scrubclub.spreadshirt.com and stare at this EP cover for bad ass examples of this man’s work.

I also wanna thank Zilla Persona and all of the folks who put the first NerdRage event together. It was the first live performance of “Traitor,” and it was beautiful opening

for MC Frontalot – That’s one of the goals I had when I started. You, me, 8Bit, Ecomog, and Frontalot killed that place. More Philly shows in the future!

If I forgot you, I am sorry, but don’t worry… I’ve got more albums and more time.

Last but not least… The fans. Holy Shit, I love each and every one of you. I can not wait to meet up with you guys and make more albums for you to love. Keep the faith in me, I will not let you down.

Much Love, KPX V1

Various Artists – Versus Mode

Artist: Various Artists
Released online February 2010
Running time: 72:52

Scrub Club’s fierce Versus Mode audio / visual competition in mid-2009 led to four new leveled-up artists on the label for 2010.

Held on Scrub Club’s official community site, GeekAmigo.com, Versus Mode was a contest that had a group of up-and-coming artists go head to head for some challenges as well as team up for other goals. Out of a great amount of entrants, only 13 were selected to compete. Among the missions were recording new songs, getting professional photoshoots, promoting themselves, updating their web presence… In the end, when there were three finalists left, they competed against eachother live on stage to become Scrub Club’s next signed artist.

Those three finalists were King Pheenix, Diabeats, and Thunderball from Southside. Thunderball rocked the stage at Nerd Invasion in Pensacola, Florida like no other and walked away with the grand title – but with his blessing, all three finalists as well as a runner-up, StarF, were integrated into Scrub Club also.

This compilation includes 10 of the most notable tracks from the duration of the contest. They’re not necessarily the best songs produced from Versus Mode as far as overall quality goes, but they are definitely the ones that stood out from the rest and had the most heart (or made us laugh our asses off, one of the two). Following these 10 tracks is the recording of the actual 40 minute live finale of Versus Mode, where you can hear all three finalists giving it their all to a very hungry crowd.

“Been encased in flesh, still feeling android fresh” – KPX

Listen up, true believers. King Pheenix (Scott Shepley) has been a recording artist since 2003. Getting his start at the age of 15, rapping in street cyphers and plenty of freestyle sessions, the fire was steady lit. Throughout the years, the “Determinator” perfected his craft and lived by one mantra - make Hip Hop by any means necessary.  Now revitalized by an introduction into the Nerdcore community by fellow musician (and longtime friend) MC 8bit, the mission has changed – make real Hip Hop with a nerdy twinge.

It’s all been up from there. In 2010, KPX’s debut “Hero vs. Villain” surfaced under the Scrub Club label, and changed the game in it’s own unique fashion. A comic book / music amalgam, it has become a memorable foray into Hip Hop storytelling. Some hailes it as an “instant classic” and “the Pheenix we’ve been waiting for.” Leaving the listener with a cliffhanger, one question has been asked frequently… When will “The Answer” return?

Since joining Scrub Club in 2009, Pheenix has performed on multiple stages including Florida’s Nerd Invasion 2009 and Nerdapalooza 2010, the gaming mainstay of Indianapolis’ Gen Con 2010, and several places across the east coast with many artists including Mega Ran and MC Frontalot.

‘Tis the year, where the fire is turned up to 11. Pheenix is currently working on many projects, Including his Sophomore LP “Funhouse of Ashes,” slated for a summer 2011 release.
