Much love to all you Londoners!

BBC London

If you’re finding Scrub Club Records or Nerdcore in general for the first time because of the BBC News piece or the Outriders radio show, then let me be first to welcome you to the fray!

And if you’re already a Scrub-in-the-know, make sure to click those two links above to get caught up on the awesomeness.

We are deeply honored that Jamillah Knowles and Chris Vallance from BBC London included us into the mix by interviewing me along with other geeky greats MC Frontalot, Adam WarRock, and Nursehella.

The Outriders show as well as the BBC News write-up will reach well over a million people, and we’re still tying to figure out some Steampunk contraption that will be able to lift our jaws back into our mouths at that number.

Thank you all so much, you loyal Scrubs and fellow nerds that keep us doing what we do. Please spread the word about these articles and remain a good example of what this flourishing community is capable of.

And for you out there that caught the story, show, or podcast, feel free to browse our free music albums to your right… We currently have 49 releases from quite a few different sounds and subjects to keep you busy. :D

Let’s finish building that No Dough / Independent mission of Scrub Club overseas!

WE WILL SEE YOU SCRUBS OUT IN ORLANDO IN JULY!

Get your ears ready for our amazing music, and get your thumbs ready to battle MadHatter in Marvel VS Capcom 2!

Help get __________ to Nerdapalooza!

Help get Dr. Awkward, Kabuto The Python, and MadHatter to Nerdapalooza, possibly more!

Due to an overwhelming response to our not-so-hopeful Nerdapalooza announcement last week, we must once again be amazed in the presence of you – our amazing fans, friends, and business partners who keep our machine oiled and running. When we told you that several artists from Scrub Club Records wouldn’t be able to make it to Nerdapalooza this year, you took quick action, showing us just how important it is that SCR rocks one of the freshest geek reunions and just how possible it is that your power can help get us there.

Financial struggles are no stranger to most of our artists, and that usually leaves travel to performing out of the equation unless a promoter pays our way there, or we have enough donations to spread towards getting to the venue. This year is no exception, even with the giant rise Scrub Club has been making so far in 2010, we’re still not-for-profit and giving away all of our music for free. We’ve been offered performance time at Nerdapalooza in July, but they didn’t have enough budget to get us there. When y’all heard that, several people went into action, and we couldn’t be more thankful.

So, like I said, due to popular demand, we will be trying our damndest to make it to Nerdapalooza. A good number of us are already going, but some of us have no chance unless we build up enough donations to make it so. There are currently three main efforts that are going on right now, and I’d love to point them out if you’d like to lend a hand to help put together another set of mind-blowing Scrub performances this year at NAPSE.

Help get Dr. Awkward to Nerdapalooza with the GeekPeekPost raffle!

First up, there’s the raffle going on to bring the rap chimera – Dr. Awkward – to Nerdapalooza, care of the GeekPeekPost and GameMusic4All! Tickets to this raffle are $10 apiece, but right now they are having an online special where the first ticket is $10 and each additional ticket is $5! What can you win in this raffle? Tons of merchandise from Nerdcore greats such as MC Frontalot, Schaffer the Darklord, Marc with a C, Devo Spice, Benjamin Bear, MC Cool Whip, Krhyme574R0N3, and more… plus two $100 Visa gift cards!

To get your tickets now and increase the fund to secure Dr. Awkward’s performing spot at this year’s NAPSE, please click here for more info!

Sexy Scrub Cosplay Carwash and Concert at A Comic Shop!

Also, there’s a cosplay carwash headed by our own Sexy Scrubs model Kourtney followed by a Nerdcore concert featuring SCR artists in hopes of raising enough donations to teleport Kabuto The Python to Nerdapalooza! All we can tell you at this point is that the date for sure will be Saturday, June 12th at A Comic Shop in Winter Park, Florida! You better believe that the second we have the confirmed musicians, we will announce them here and on the official Facebook page for the event.

All proceeds from the donations collected at the car wash and concert will increase the fund to secure Kabuto The Python’s performing spot at this year’s NAPSE.

You can always donate to our Scrub Club PayPal to help!

And lastly, we want to thank all of you who have been giving unbelievable amounts of your hard-earned money to our cause lately. Your donations to our central PayPal account have been adding up, and with it, we will be able to afford much more awesome merch, travel abilities, equipment, and show creations.

With any overflow from the two fundraising attempts we’ve already mentioned, I myself (MadHatter) will be added in the mix of performers at Nerdapalooza. If you would like to help me get there to rock some faces and kick some ass at Marvel vs Capcom 2, then please feel free to donate via the PayPal button on the right side of our main page (also found on each of our album pages).

But – and this is important – make sure to label your donation as “Nerdapalooza fund” or something similar in the notes section as you go through the checkout process. All unlabeled donations will be considered general donations into our central fund rather than for the Nerdapalooza travel for this year.

Any overflow from everything you see above? Well, then we start working on another artist, and so on. But of course, with the event only being two months away, time is of the essence and airfare rises every day!

Also, feel no fear in donating – If the artists above can’t make it or we don’t end up raising enough money, we will contact you with the option of either a refund or placement in the central fund. It will be your choice.

We are always open for sponsorhips as well. If you know of an entity that would love to sponsor an artist in exchange for advertising, definitely contact us and we may be able to work something out.

Remember, there are already a good portion of Scrub Club musicians hitting up this year’s Nerdapalooza. But if your favorite artist is one of the ones listed above, they are in danger of not being able to make it this year, and only your donations (no matter how large or small) can add up to bring them there.

Thanks, everyone, for all of the awesome support. And for those of us that can make it out to Orlando this year, we promise each and every one of us will give you a show unlike anything you’ve ever experienced.

We love y’all.

The Negative Zone Remix

Artist: Sinister Six / MasDaMind
Released online April 2010
Running time: 43:53

Also Featuring: Will Smith, Dru Hill, Linkin Park, Rihanna, Young Jeezy, and Naughty by Nature.

A complete track-by-track remix of the first hard-hitting Sinister Six album, but from a different reality!

All 10 of the original songs from the “Invasion of the Mic Snatchers” album have been sent through a portal device directly into the Negative Zone. After a month, the tracks were retrieved, but these were from the other side of the mirror – the beats have been switched out, speeds were altered, genres were crisscrossed… But there’s one thing scientists can confirm: They are indeed fresh specimens for your ears.

The appropriately-named remixer MasDaMind has mashed up each track for a completely new, surprisingly quirky effect. See what your dimension has been missing!

11 – Tear OPP Up (MasDaMind’s Naughty by Nature Mashup)

ALBUM FACTS AND TRIVIA

This album was a blast to make, and took less than a month to completely fix up. All tracks were mashed together by MasDaMind (Youtube here) (Facebook here) (blog here) and tweaks, adjustments, and advice were given by MadHatter in the process.

“Through the Herald and the Flames” was originally planned to be mixed with the 90′s X-Men cartoon theme, but due to complications, this idea was scrapped and Dragonforce was used instead for a more perfect fit.

“Make Way for the Wild Wild West” is MadHatter’s personal favorite on this album. The original “Make Way” chorus also appeared in another one of MasDaMind’s remixes called “Come With Nerdcore” alongside verses from Scrub Club emcees Kabuto The Python and MadHatter.

“Deeper” also appeared in another one of MasDaMind’s remixes called “Deeper Room Service.”

“Master of Dice” was the toughest mashup to do. It took three complete do-overs to nail it. Timing was the biggest issue, and of course the 1986 recording isn’t the best thing to the ears when mixed with raps.

“Intergalactic HQ” was difficult to put together as well. Two songs were attempted to mix with this track that didn’t quite work – “Still Dre” and “Roc Boys.” But ultimately, “Intergalactic” worked best.

“Lying from your Scientistik Shoulders,” believe it or not, needed only minor editing. The tempos and timing were nearly dead-on. The original “Scientistik” track was also used in one of MasDaMind’s Goldeneye 64 mashups.

“Tear OPP Up” was a little tough to mix, but it’s apparent now that these songs were just made for one another. The original “Tear It Up” track was also used in another one of MasDaMind’s mashups with “On to the Next One” by Jay-Z.

Examiner Topeka Interviews MadHatter

MC Frontalot on G4 Hey guys, Hatter here wanting to link you to an article from the Topeka Examiner, where I got interviewed for my thoughts on Nerdcore in preperation for MC Frontalot’s concert coming up in Scrub Club’s hometown of Wichita, Kansas.

Free? Yes, free. In a world where most artists want to charge the listener for every song downloaded, this culture gives it away. Why? I talked with Mad Hatter, head of Scrub Club Records and local resident, about why they offer their music in this way. “We offer our music for free because we believe that music should BE free, at the core of it all,” he replied. “ It also allows people that can’t afford cds or online purchases to have access to our entire online catalogue, and this also helps speed up the process of spreading our music and message worldwide – There’s no buck to stop our progress.”

You can check out the full article by clicking this text right here! Thanks to Kari Phillips over at the Examiner for the love!

Tensix

Artist: MadHatter
Released in stores 2004
Released online 2006
Running time: 58:12

Also Featuring: KnightDetective and Scrub Club members acting like fools on the chorus of “That’s Ghetto”

MadHatter’s first solo album and the source of many SCR staples!

15 tracks coming from some of the darker and more painful moments in Hatter’s life. Although there’s quite a few angry songs on this album that he just had to get off his chest, there’s also the goofy hits “That’s Ghetto,” “Put Em Up,” and the disturbingly sexy “Wiggle” with his long-time homie KnightDetective. It contains many songs that were well-known for being sung along to during Scrub Club’s older live sets.

A learning experience, this album was entirely written and produced by MadHatter and recorded with the local Wichita music legend Tommy Carlyle.

ALBUM FACTS AND TRIVIA

This album has had a few incarnations. “Tensix,” the studio-recorded version, was originally released in stores in 2004. It was professionally pressed and released by Scrub Club Records with $1,800 in financial backing from Ninja Records. Ninja Records picked up on MadHatter’s music through online promotion of the FIRST version of Tensix, which was recorded on a $6 microphone as Hatter slept on floor after floor of his friend’s apartments after he was forced homeless in 2003. That version of the album was of somewhat decent quality for the equipment and learning curve that was present at the time, but MadHatter wanted a much better quality for it someday. “Fake” was and has always been the big hit off of the album, and the first version in 2003 won a few online contests and gained him a budding fan base and free site promotion. As said above, this caught the attention of Ninja Records, and after a contract was made up, they agreed to pay in full the price to press and release a newly recorded version of the album. Hatter built up enough money at his job to record the new Tensix in many different sessions, and this download is the final product of that newer recording.

Even older, a few of the songs on this album are modified versions of songs off of the Shadow Puppet’s first cd “Eye4AnEye” in 2002. Due to creative differences, some of the songs sat unreleased until Tensix came along while others had parts from Wicket Slang that were taken out and replaced with new lyrics after the group disbanded.

This album was originally sold for $10 in stores back in 2004, which was cheaper than anyone else’s cds at the time, even other local artists. This was on purpose. Later, in 2005, MadHatter decided to lower the price on all of the label’s cds to an insane $5 apiece. After a major decision during a Scrub Club Records meeting in 2006, there was a unanimous vote to release all of their music online for free from that point on. That is when Tensix was fixed up a bit, given new artwork, and re-released on our official site as you see it today.

Return” is the first song to mention the almighty “$6 mic.” Back in the beginnings of MadHatter’s musical adventures, he was so poor that the only microphone he could afford was a shitty 6 dollar one from WalMart. To his and everyone else’s surprise, the microphone outperformed itself and did a pretty damn good job for what it was! Pop stoppers ranged from socks to egg crates to tampons to cardboard to pantyhose. Eventually, this was scrapped for a… $15 dollar mic. It ended up not sounding nearly as good as the cheaper one! The original home-recorded version of this song also appears on “MadHatter Presents Rewind And Refresh Volume One.”

Fake” is one of nearly every oldschool Scrub Club Soldier’s favorite songs. Tons of people really feel it. Hatter wrote the song a year after the 9/11 attacks, pointing a finger at all the fake patriots that emerged from the disaster just to fit in and other fake people in general. The song gained an amazing 80% Phat vote from ICP’s Phat Or Wack Contest, the highest score ever achieved. This score was also shared with Scrub Club’s former artist from New York “Da Kippa” with his song “Am I Crazy?” which also ranked an 80%. Hearing this song usually either makes or breaks a person’s initial opinion of Scrub Club. On the Soundclick charts, it ranked #15 in the Alternative Hip Hop genre, beating out 71,172 other entries in 2004. In the overall Hip Hop category, it ranked #408, beating out a staggering 1,043,483 other entries!

Wiggle” is the first instance of long-time homie and former Scrub Club artist KnightDetective ever recording. The interesting pleasure-induced female noises in the background are provided by… well… maybe you should just read the sample listing below.

Now U See” is probably the angriest of MadHatter’s songs, and it’s all about him being turned homeless and stressed by a rampaging bitch of an ex. Her revenge for their breakup ended up costing him his apartment through some dirty tricks she played, his close friends at the time due to rumors, the majority of his possessions (both bought and priceless personal items) being sold to gangbangers while he was at work, and her cleaning out the bank account and leaving him with all the bills. The fact that the relationship was horrible and abusive as it was plus all of the other information you just read might help you to understand Hatter’s frustration at the time. He considers this track to actually be pretty light compared to what he felt during the panic attack before writing it.

That’s Ghetto” catches a lot of listener’s smiles when they hear the exact same things they enjoy or are used to living with… Duct tape, mac and cheese, grape Kool Aid… horrible, dying cars… it’s all in here. This is as real as it gets. The auto mentioned in this song was Hatter’s 1985 Volkswagen Quantum, a vehicle that was recalled for 33 different electrical and mechanical failures. It was his first homebrew paint job, and it looked fresh. There was a switch on the dash for some unknown reason that killed all lights inside and outside of the car, which when painted a flat, nonreflective back, let him sneak up on other cars in the night and escape police officers. Word! During concert sets, you can always expect Scrub Club to throw out free mac and cheese, ramen noodles, and other goodies to all the people in the crowd that probably literally need that junk.

Backstabbers” is another let-off-steam track about the close friends in his life and old Shadow Puppets crew screwing him over and turning two-faced over rumors and lies spread by his psycho ex. When performed live, the stage is always lucky to survive the stomping it receives.

Headache” is a really simple song that has an increasing volume, amount of instruments, and harshnness of voice to simulate the effects of a migraine headache, which had been tearing Hatter’s head apart since his childhood around the age of 10 and 12. Between those ages, he grew far too fast for his age, which crippled him to crawling on the floor as a kid because his knees, back, and neck were too stressed by the growth. A short crack of the neck and back from a cheap-ass chiropracter every now and then currently keeps these from returning, but everyone can relate to this pain in some way, shape, or form.

Put ‘Em Up” seems to be the first of it’s kind: A song in the appreciation of your average non-model-class chick. The girl next door. The sexy women that all the popular guys never see the beauty in. This song, from the original 2003 home recording of Tensix, was featured on a few different female-powered sites at the time. Even older, a version was recorded in late 2002 that featured KnightDetective and TNA on the chorus. However, the vocal effect ended up all gangsta like a Lil’ Jon track, so that version was scratched to make way for a sexy, mellow one.

Snap” has been credited on several occasions for saving the lives of people who were lost and even ready to give up their life rather than deal with abusive families and other horrible situations. It’s also the Scrub Club track that EVERYONE can relate to. MadHatter gets emotional to this day whenever he performs this song live, because of the understanding looks in people’s eyes in the crowd as they listen to his words.

What Makes A Killa?” was written shortly after the school shootings at Columbine and Littleton and fights back at the negative and manipulative media that covers and exploits such stories. People really need to wake up and realize the shape of the big picture. Since this song was released, tons of local evidence has arisen that help to prove that Columbine was a staged coverup, so the fact that this was all fabricated in the first place really drives the point of this song home.

Jump2This” is a crowd hyper for sure. Unfortunately, the album version is at a low quality because the instrumental was lost forever due to a computer crash in 2003. The newest version had to be recorded directly over the older version, which creates the slight echo and tinny sound that you hear. We truly tried to get the best out of it. The original home-recorded version of this song also appears on “MadHatter Presents Rewind And Refresh Volume One.”

Cheat” was inspired by a close friend of Hatter’s being hurt time and time and time again by a cheating girlfriend and eventually wife. It drove Hatter insane to see his friend literally destroyed every single time it happened, and these are the evil verses that came from the situation. Originally planned for the first Shadow Puppets cd, it was not released because the couple got back together yet again. It didn’t last. Today, they are thankfully still seperated.

Walk With Me” was the ending song on the first Puppets album “Eye4AnEye.” Wicket Slang’s parts except for the chorus were taken out and replaced with a new verse. The song deals with the little known serial killer who thought he was just doing God’s work when he killed what he considered evil people like pedophiles, wife beaters, etc. The man was definately an inspiration behind the Shadow Puppets mythology. Also mixed in with the story are MadHatter’s personal experiences that deal with the same ex from “Now U See.” The end of the song begs for forgiveness from all previous sins and a ticket to the afterlife. Do people like the average downtrodden individual get the same treatment as a serial killer at the gates of Heaven? Are all sins equal? This song tells the listener to decide that now and plan out their life for the result they want.

?” was an easter egg on the pressed version of Tensix in 2004 that played several minutes after the music on the cd was over. It features a rediculous, goofy-ass remake of “Insane In The Brain” by Cypress Hill from Hatter and his old friend Farley Charwell, and a classic collaboration track called “Metawhore” between MadHatter and Da Kippa, who is a former artist of Scrub Club from New York.

MadHatter – 8Bit Bullshit

MadHatter's 8Bit Bullshit album

8Bit Bullshit

Artist: MadHatter
Released online April 2007
Running time: 37:50

Also Featuring: Shelshocker, Chester, and several Scrub Club members and homies in the chorus of “Overheat”

The long-awaited nerdy masterpiece is finally here!

11 tracks full of nonstop Nintendo memories to bob your head to. Following up on the underground success of Hatter’s Zelda song “Ganon Slayer,” this album takes a journey to the world of eight bit super heroes of the past, with each song describing the game from the main character’s view. Most of the classics have been covered here, and certain punchlines and metaphors will have oldschool cats laughing out loud. Featuring the actual in-game NES music ripped out, remixed, and given fresh new beats, the instrumentals alone will have you grinning. A release that definitely put Scrub Club on the nerdcore charts, this cd is packed with so much 80s time-warp freshness that Stephen Hawking’s head exploded.

ALBUM FACTS AND TRIVIA

Originally planned for release in 2006, this badass side project was put aside time and time again in order to make way for other group projects. After those projects were cancelled or rescheduled, the actual recording and mixing of this album from scratch took less than 4 months on Scrub Club’s new studio equipment.

Ganon Slayer” was first released in 2004 just as a single Hatter thought a few people might like, since he was a hardcore Zelda guy. In just a week after its appearance on Soundclick in 2005, the track rose to the top of the charts and landed #1 in the Electronic: Games genre, beating out 4,241 other submissions. In the Electronic genre itself, it climbed to #10, beating out 197,534 other submissions.

During Scrub Club’s live concerts, you will usually catch people running around during the 8Bit songs with props from certain games, like a sword and shield during Ganon Slayer, golden coins during Pipe Dreams, and sometimes zappers and old controllers.

The photoshoot for this album was hilarious to do and got a good amount of attention. Characters were played out by SCR members and friends for a few goofy hours, and during the mayhem were even asked to be in random shots including a girl’s senior pictures. MadHatter was Mario, KnightDetective was Luigi, Zadi was Princess Toadstool (Peach), Chester was Donkey Kong, William Buckley was Snake, Wookie was Link, and our homie Amy was Princess Zelda. Surprisingly, none of us were arrested (it helped that the photoshoot ended up landing on April Fool’s Day).

This marks the first time Shelshocker ever recorded, which was during the chorus of “Unstoppable.”

The song “AFS,” which you truly have to hear to understand this fact, was written, produced, recorded, and mixed within a period of 45 minutes. Also note that this track is ridiculous and evilly catchy on purpose. Sorry in advance!

Bullets And Buckshot” was one of the first video games based on the Old West. We would like to claim that this has never been done before, a Hip Hop song about a western from an old video game. Triple odd scenario. We’re pretty sure that’s a first, haha.
