“Bizarro” originally appeared on Maros’ “NXSE” album.

ALBUM FACTS AND TRIVIA

There isn’t much back story for this cd in general since it is just a collection of random scraps, but here’s some interesting stories behind some of the songs:

Quantum Leaps“, “All Hail the Kings,” and “Game Over” were all originally on Karmageddon’s “Game Over” album.

igNormal” was originally on Hyper Sniper’s “Dekade” album.

Warpath” was a song that was literally made from the ground up in a little over an hour during a hotel room party at Nerd invasion in 2009. Untested Methods made a beat on the spot, and Karmageddon invited Kabuto The Python and MadHatter to spit on it with him. All three rappers wrote some lyrics down immediately and recorded as they finished with only one run of practice time. Given the impromptu situation as well as recording their parts over the loud noise of the hotel party, this track turned out better than any of us thought it would despite the poor finished quality. It was a hell of a lot of fun to just jump in and do instantly.

Various Artists – Versus Mode

Artist: Various Artists
Released online February 2010
Running time: 72:52

Scrub Club’s fierce Versus Mode audio / visual competition in mid-2009 led to four new leveled-up artists on the label for 2010.

Held on Scrub Club’s official community site, GeekAmigo.com, Versus Mode was a contest that had a group of up-and-coming artists go head to head for some challenges as well as team up for other goals. Out of a great amount of entrants, only 13 were selected to compete. Among the missions were recording new songs, getting professional photoshoots, promoting themselves, updating their web presence… In the end, when there were three finalists left, they competed against eachother live on stage to become Scrub Club’s next signed artist.

Those three finalists were King Pheenix, Diabeats, and Thunderball from Southside. Thunderball rocked the stage at Nerd Invasion in Pensacola, Florida like no other and walked away with the grand title – but with his blessing, all three finalists as well as a runner-up, StarF, were integrated into Scrub Club also.

This compilation includes 10 of the most notable tracks from the duration of the contest. They’re not necessarily the best songs produced from Versus Mode as far as overall quality goes, but they are definitely the ones that stood out from the rest and had the most heart (or made us laugh our asses off, one of the two). Following these 10 tracks is the recording of the actual 40 minute live finale of Versus Mode, where you can hear all three finalists giving it their all to a very hungry crowd.

Scrub Club among Hipster, Please’s favorites!

Z is the main main behind the nerd music and culture blog Hipster, Please! as well as writing for GeekDad / Wired.

Every year, this respected writer gathers the entire 365 or some odd days together and picks his favorite happenings, artists, and albums. This year, we here at Scrub Club must have been really working our asses off, because instead of focusing on one particular artist or band as usual, he gave props to the entire Scrub roster and showed that he truly knows what we’re all about.

Please click here for the awesome full article, or the bigass image at the top of this post if your motor skills aren’t so good. Everywhere here at the newly forming Scrub Club Collective offer our largest, heartfelt thanks and best wishes to Z and the rest of our tiny family at Geekdad – Curtis Silver and Free-Geek! You guys were great friends to us last year, and we’re just getting started! Much love to you all!

Over the epic family reunion-type weekend of Nerd Invasion in Pensacola, Florida, the Nerdcore hacker superstar Dual Core was shooting his new video, directed by our really short but Canadian-superhero-tough homie John S. LaValle. Were those enough adjectives for you? Anyway, a great portion of Scrub Club’s musicians, crew, and friends were invited to make short appearances in the video.

Jam out to Dual Core’s video for his heartfelt track “Forever,” and see the likes of Kasparov, King Pheenix, Dr. Awkward, ZeaLouS1, MadHatter, Hex Warrior, Diabeats, StarF, Kabuto The Python, MC_Loki, Laika’s crazy ass, and more!

ALBUM FACTS AND TRIVIA

There isn’t much back story for this cd in general since it is just a collection of random scraps, but here’s some interesting stories behind some of the songs:

Nightmare People” and “Our Story Begins“ were for the project “Nightmare People” by Benjamin Bear. The storyline revolved around a portal being opened up from another dimension, evil versions of everyone coming through it to destroy us, and humanity’s struggle with defeating these negative-type people. BBear moved on to a better project, and these songs remained as scraps with no home. But they’re hardly useless, both are shining examples of the fact that no one can beat Benjamin Bear at science fiction raps, and it’s great material.

Fist of the North Star” was a random song done by Benjamin Bear about the horrible Nintendo Entertainment System / Famicom port of the anime “Fist of the North Star.” If you’ve never played the game, trust us on this, this song is basically an instruction manual for it.

Change Me” was a track set to be on an album called “Timeshift,” which was a venture back to Benjamin Bear’s more orchestrated, deep rock music. The album was never fully formed. If you’ve only heard BBear’s Hip Hop and you have an open taste in music, then you’re in for an amazing treat.

Drunken Rapping” What is there left to be said? Benjamin Bear gets drunk and explodes into a crazy song. “Shut up! I got a butt like that!” Somewhere, right now, Bear is shaking his head.

Nerd Rockstar” was an entry from Dr. Awkward in a contest to represent the Florida clothing shop of the same name. Between this song and multiple Twitter promotions, Dr. Awkward won a PS3 in the end. Names from a good portion of the company’s shirts make their way into the lyrics, but even without knowing the context, the song is a great, standalone nerd anthem.

Griefer Anthem” is a song on Nerdcore rapper Brook’s album “Ball-Sweat and Tears.” It’s a track that is a theme song for assholes that love to make other players miserable during the online gaming experience. Are you fun’s bane as well? Both hilarious and seriously catchy, you’ll be hitting play over and over again on this one.

Cocky(Terraphim D&B Remix) A DJ by the name of Terraphim turns Deafinition’s “Cocky” into a short and sweet drum and bass remix. Show us your finest footwork! Crack a glowstick or two, even.

Game Girl” is a song that teamed up a producer named Decepticon-19 and MadHatter to create a video game-themed track. This song is also available on our homies over at GameMusic4All‘s “Here Comes A New Challenger” disc, which combines musicians with rappers from several types of genres, all about the love of the music. Please visit their site to download that album for free, then check out the sequel release in our free music section as well.

Nerd Party“ is a collaboration track between MadHatter and blind talkbox musician / songwriter Duyahn Walker. From the school of Roger Troutman, Duyuahn lays down some thick and classic vocals that set the mood for 2009′s funkiest Nerdcore anthem. Originally made to hopefully be the official theme song for Nerdapalooza 2009, the theme song competition was never launched prior to the event. Still, a killer tune was born.

A Friday Mashupis MasDaMind’s mashup remix of several Kabuto The Python verses mixed with Eminem, Montel Jordan, and Will Smith, of all people. A rumpshaker of a beat, this is both weird and unavoidable to the booty.

On the Hunt for Black and White is MasDaMind’s mashup remix of the Sinister Six’s “On the Hunt” and Michael Jackson’s “Black or White.” While this may sound odd in text form, when you hear the audio, you’ll understand how this strangely fit together like a shiny silver glove.

Captain Dan Is An Ugly Woman” is MasDaMind’s mashup remix of Kabuto The Python’s “Captain Dan is a Punk” with “Ugly” by Bubba Sparxxx and “Independent Women” by Destiny’s Child. Why? How? Who the hell knows. But it’s a hilarious and fantastic remix all the same.

Still Scrammin’” is MasDaMind’s mashup remix of MadHatter’s “Scram” (MC Router Diss) and the rap classic “Still” by the Geto Boys. It takes the original humorous diss track, slows it down, and makes it more lethal.

All I Know” was a song by Deafinition’s original rap group Spittin Image in 2005. This marks the first time Deafinition ever recorded, and is definitely worth the listen for all you historians out there.

Broke Ass” was also a track by Deafinition’s original rap group Spittin Image in 2005, and features fellow emcee Surreal. Even back in the beginnings, Deaf’s flow is crazy and polished. A lot of us wish we could say the same thing.

Nerdcore Is Dead” is a song by High-C on his album “Brute Force Attack” that also features Benjamin Bear and ZeaLouS1. The subject relates to how tired the three are of people claiming other rappers are or aren’t Nerdcore, and how Nerdcore is just Hip Hop and, truth be known, we’re all just a bunch of geeks rapping on the internet.

Here Comes A New Challenger II Turbo

Artist: Various Artists
Released online 2009
Running time: 91:36

An epic compilation six months in the making!

Here Comes a New Challenger II Turbo is the sequel to 2008′s album “Here Comes a New Challenger” by the folks at GameMusic4aAll.com. Inspired by the fighting games we have grown up alongside all these years, we have worked hard on and finally released an album which pits different musicians, DJs, rappers, composers, singers, and more against one another to see what musical mayhem is produced in the aftermath. The concept behind the album is to show that no matter how you show your love for gaming and the culture surrounding it, we are all gamers at the end of the day, and that’s that.

ALBUM FACTS AND TRIVIA

This compilation is two discs and 26 tracks of collaborations by video game inspired musicians. Some songs stay true to their video game roots with tracks like “Contra,” “It Is What It Is,” and “8 Bit Flashback.” Some take it to different nerdy grounds with songs like “I Like Anime,” and the Star Wars inspired “Rhyme Pirates.” Still, others take it to other territories like the ridiculous yet well done “Bizarro Paradise City,” and the hilarious ninja-oriented “Secrets Don’t Make Girlfriends.” Of course, the album even has its share of more serious songs like “Revolution” and “Sentimental Graffiti.”
