What is Scrub Club Records?
Scrub Club is an independent record label.
Not only are we independent, we're also not-for-profit. Yes, you read that right - the label itself gets zero cut of the money! We release and distribute albums, promote our artists, book events, direct street teams, and offer awesome merchandise all by the power of donations from supporters and cash from our own pockets.
All of our albums are available for free so that there are no barriers in the way of a potential listener. The whole world is welcome to check out our music and other projects for free, and if they dig it enough, they are welcome to give a few bucks. If they can't, that's all good - we make our art to entertain and enlighten, getting reimbursed is not our focus.
To help combat the extensive costs of being musicians, our artists are welcome to sell their own merchandise and accept cuts they get from performing. On the other end of the scale, all donations go into a central fund that is used to purchase group merchandise, travel, and equipment for all of our musicians that may need it.
Scrub Club is the new face of the industry.
The music industry we grew up with is nearly dead. Soon, it will only be a memory to pass down to our children. The days of corporations leeching money from talented musicians and trading them like trinkets is over! As this struggling dinosaur bleeds out a few more years of penny pinching, Scrub Club is here, more than glad to pull the plug on it.
In the old days, aspiring musicians could never afford their own equipment and had to go to expensive recording studios to make their product. Clubs and larger venues would only talk to agents and managers. The only way to be discovered on a large scale was by getting radio play, an article in a big newspaper, or appearing on MTV. The only option for an artist was to seek out a record label and pray they got picked up so they could follow their dreams. Even when labels were interested, they often forced the musician to act, dress, or sound different to be marketable or politically correct. The labels always got the majority of the money earned by artists, and the amount musicians finally received dwindled more and more every year...
Times have changed. Recording equipment is cheap, and you can plug it right into your own computer - there's no need for high-dollar studios. Venues are open to talking directly to bands. Radio is dead. Newspapers are dead. MTV is dead. Independent labels and DIY musicians have sprouted up to help each other out instead of relying on a skyscraper somewhere, full of greedy board members. The music industry chokes harder and harder on shrinking profits every year, losing it's will to live.
The methods of Scrub Club were refined to give the people from all nations what they expect when it comes to enjoying and sharing music now and in the future. The superior treatment of it's musicians, business partners, and supporters is what makes Scrub Club Records the flagship of this independent movement.
To take a new swing on things, all Scrub Club music releases are now made available with an Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike license by means of Creative Commons (CC BY-NC-SA). This encourages our listeners and fellow artists to share and distribute our music, as well as remix and build onto it to create new and exciting material. We are also the world's first open source record label, offering our supporters the source vocals and even instrumentals for a majority of our main releases. We are proudly the next step in musical evolution between artists and listeners.
Scrub Club is a talented collective of artists.
We are completely self-capable. Not only do our musicians make killer tracks, many of them are skilled in multiple areas. Traditional artwork, graphics, production, mixing, mastering, video editing, photography, web design, even game creation... We do it all, and we do it all ourselves. Not only is this convenient, but it saves us time and money because we don't have to hire outside services.
Scrub Club is a strong, active family.
We are constantly interacting with other businesses, artists, and supporters both online and offline. We have all the time in the world to give to our supporters because they are truly what this is all about. They keep our engine running, so we are eternally humble.
You will always catch us hanging out with supporters before and after shows. We're not "too good" for anything - we play shows in hallways and basements, and we play shows at festivals and huge conventions. No matter if there are five people or thousands of people in the audience, we rock it with all of our heart. This is what we do, who we are, what we love, and we want to share it with as many people as possible!
When you look at other musicians, you will often times see a one-way stream of communication. Scrub Club is as open as possible, and we love to keep conversations flowing in both directions. Every email, social message, phone call, and text is answered, even if it takes awhile.
The artists themselves are great partners to one another, and some are the best of friends. We all carry a common respect for each other and the overall mission of Scrub Club, and that really shines when you see us working together.
There's no other group of people like us on the planet, and no other label trying to do what we're doing with as much heart as we put into it. That's for damn sure.
We are very glad you found us, and we hope you'll join us in our unique mission. Welcome to the family! Let's kick some ass.
